No. 15 Stanford Lacrosse Returns To Cagan Stadium This Week

Stanford, Calif. - No. 15 Stanford lacrosse returns to action this week with a pair of games at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. First, the Cardinal will take on Davidson on Thursday, March 4, at 4:00 p.m. Stanford will follow that up by welcoming No. 14 Vanderbilt on Sunday, March 7, at 1:00 p.m.

The Cardinal (2-2) will continue with its difficult non-conference schedule to begin the year, taking on its fourth ranked opponent of the season. Stanford has dropped games to No. 1 Northwestern and No. 6 Syracuse, while defeating No. 19 Ohio State.

Davidson (1-2) comes to town coming off a 14-7 loss to Navy. The Wildcats only win of the season came at home to Detroit-Mercy. Last season, Stanford traveled to Davidson, S.C., to face Davidson, winning 19-4. The Cardinal are 2-0 all-time versus the Wildcats. Fourteen different Stanford players scored in the game, led by Maria Fortino who had the first two goals of her Stanford career.

Sunday, the Cardinal host Vanderbilt (1-2), who is coming off its first win of the season after knocking off Maryland-Baltimore County. Vanderbilt opened with losses to North Carolina and Duke, both top-10 teams. Stanford is 4-2 all-time against Commodores, including a 10-9 win in their last meeting in 2007. Last season, Vanderbilt qualified for the NCAA tournament, but was eliminated in the first round by Notre Dame.

So far this season the Cardinal have been led in goals by Sarah Flynn (9) and in assists by Claire Hubbard (5). Flynn and Lauren Schmidt lead the team in points with 10 apiece. Schmidt won the past week's MPSF Player of the Week honor after scoring the game-winning goal against Ohio State.

Both games this weekend are free admission.
