Stanford, Calif. - Stanford's Lauren Schmidt was among the 48 players honored as All-American by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. She was named to the All-America third team, becoming the first Stanford player to be honored by the IWLCA since Laura Shane in 2007. The IWLCA will honor the National All-Americans at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 12, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa.
Last season, Schmidt was included on All-America teams by the various lacrosse websites, but this is her first All-America honor from the IWLCA. She led the Cardinal team that advanced to the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Schmidt is the two-time reigning MPSF Player of the Year and a first team all-region selection. The redshirt junior scored 37 goals and dished out 22 assists on the year. Her 59 points led the team and she was also tied for the team lead with three game-winning goals.
Schmidt was also named to the MPSF all-tournament team after scoring six goals and dishing out two assists in the tournament. Her final goal of the weekend came in the final minute of overtime to send the game to sudden death, allowing Stanford to advance.
Schmidt was also named to the preseason Tewaaraton Watch List.
