STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford University and Windermere Real Estate in California today announced the inaugural Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic to be held on Saturday, March 29 and Sunday, March 30 at Redwood Shores, in Redwood City, California.
This prestigious rowing regatta features many of the nation's top collegiate crew teams in Henley-style lightweight women's, open women's and men's events. More than 50 individual races will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Saturday, and from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Sunday. All race events are free and open to the public, who are welcome to view racing from the shoreline and surrounding areas.
In addition to Stanford, teams from California, Harvard, Navy, Michigan State, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Ohio State, Sacramento State, Virginia, University of California at Davis, and University of Southern California have confirmed participation.
"It's a rare occasion for this many East and West coast-based teams to have the opportunity to square off in this kind of high-profile, pre-season challenge," according to Craig Amerkhanian, Stanford director of rowing and men's head coach.
"Windermere has a rich heritage of supporting collegiate crew racing and is honored to partner with Stanford in bringing this exciting event to the Bay Area," said Mark Ewing, president of Windermere Real Estate in California.
