STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford versus Santa Clara softball game, originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 27, has been moved to Wednesday, March 28 due to inclement weather in the Bay Area. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Smith Family Stadium.
The Cardinal (25-6) is looking to snap a three-game skid as it was swept by California last weekend to open Pac-12 Conference play after an 11-day break for finals. Santa Clara is 5-24 overall and went 1-3 last weekend at a tournament in Riverside, Calif. Twelve of the Broncos' losses have come by two runs or less this season.
Stanford is led offensively by rookie Hanna Winter and junior Jenna Rich. Winter leads the Pac-12 with 50 hits on the season and has a team-best .442 batting average. Rich is hitting .430 with 43 hits, including 10 doubles, three triples and four home runs. She also leads the squad with 38 RBI, ranking fourth in the conference.
In the circle, junior pitcher Teagan Gerhart is 20-3 overall, leading the Pac-12, and has tallied 125 strikeouts in 24 appearances. Freshman Nyree White is 5-3 overall with a 2.64 ERA and has 46 strikeouts while issuing just six walks on the year.
Leading SCU is junior Jamie Wallis with 29 hits (.363 batting average), a .452 on-base percentage and a .463 slugging percentage. Senior Briana Knight and sophomore Kelly Scribner have combined for 10 doubles, six home runs and 35 RBI on the year.
Stanford continues Pac-12 play this weekend on the road in Tucson, Ariz., against No. 17/19 Arizona. The teams will play a three-game series, March 30-Apr. 1 at Hillenbrand Stadium.
