COLUMBUS, Ohio - Junior Shannon Montague (Plano, TX) and sophomore Lindsey Wigginton (Chula Vista, CA) hold down the top two spots after the semifinals of the solo competition at the 2000 Synchronized Swimming Collegiate National Championships Thursday at the Peppe Aquatics Center. Stanford is the two-time defending national champion but Ohio State had won 13 consecutive national titles before the Cardinal broke that streak in 1998. The Buckeyes also have the advantage of hosting this year's meet.

The semifinal round of the solo, duet and trio competitions were held Thursday, with the top eight advancing to the finals Saturday. The overall team championship is based on points earned in those three events as well as the figures competition and the team event.

Senior Julie Enos (San Jose, CA) and Montague were second in the preliminary round of the duet competition, trailing only Brazilian Olympians Carolina and Isabela Moraes of Ohio State. Stanford also qualified two trios for the finals. Freshman Ashley Ensign (Monterey, CA), Wigginton and junior Kristi Wright (Walnut Creek, CA) are second and Enos, senior Paige Freiheit (Cromwell, CT) and freshman Stephanie Joukoff (Clayton, CA) are third. The Buckeye twins teammed with Mary Hofer to lead the trio qualifying.

The meet continues with the figure competition and the team semifinals Friday, and the finals in solo, duet and trio on Saturday.
