Walnut Creek, Calif. - Liz Tricase was named Pacific-10 Conference Gymnast of the Week for Feb. 22 -27, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today. It marks the second time this season that Tricase garnered the conference honor.
Tricase earned Gymnast of the Week recognition after taking first place in three events to lead the Cardinal to a 195.300-191.575 win over then-No. 21 ranked Arizona State at Burnham Pavilion on Feb. 25. Tricase started the evening off by scoring a 9.875 on vault to capture first, and followed that up by matching a personal season-high with a 9.950 score to place first on the uneven bars. The Itasca, Ill., native then helped the Cardinal record a season-high team score of 48.975 in the floor exercise, with a personal best 9.900 score to take first place. The freshman led Stanford to its first dual meet victory since January 28th with her performances.
Tricase also earned Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week honors on February 1, after leading the Cardinal to a dual meet win over Oregon State.
The Cardinal is in the midst of its toughest stretch of competition so far this season. Stanford travels to Utah on Friday to compete against the No. 3 Utes, No. 6 Florida, and Cal before returning to The Farm on Sunday to host No. 7 Alabama at 2:00 pm.
