Stanford, Calif. - Top-ranked Stanford improved to 2-0 on the season with a 5-2 victory over No. 46 Fresno State (0-1) on Friday. The Cardinal has won its last 87 matches at the Taube Tennis Center and owns a 58-dual match win streak.
The Cardinal started the afternoon with a sweep in doubles, including an 8-5 victory by second-ranked Alice Barnes and Anne Yelsey over fourth-ranked Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter at the one-spot. Celia Durkin and Amber Lui improved to 4-1 as a pair with an 8-4 win at the No. 2 spot, while Whitney Deason and Theresa Logar won their first match of the season together with an 8-5 victory at the three-spot.
In singles, the Cardinal won another four matches as tenth-ranked Logar, second-ranked Yelsey, 69th-ranked Durkin and freshman Jessica Nguyen each won in two sets.
The Cardinal will be on the road next week as Stanford looks to defend its top ranking at the U.S. Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Women's Team Indoor Championship at Madison, Wis.
