The third-ranked Stanford men's swimming and diving team ended the dual season on a high note with a convincing, 180-103, win over No. 6 California in Berkeley this afternoon. Stanford improves to 8-0 overall, 4-0 in the Pac-10, while the Golden Bears fall to, 5-1, 3-1 in league action.

Stanford set the tone early going 1-2-3 in the 100 back with Randall Bal and Peter Marshall clocking in at 47.59 while teammate Markus Rogan rounded out the trio (47.92). All three times are automatic qualifying times for NCAAs. The Cardinal also looked strong in the 100 breast, taking first and third with Anthony Robinson (54.89) and Michael Bruce (55.52). Both times are NCAA provisionally qualifying times.

The Cardinal kept up its torrid pace distancing themselves from the Golden Bears with a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 fly. Stanford distance swimmer Matt Sorlien provisionally qualified for NCAAs in the 1650 free with his winning time of 15:16.28. It is the 10th fastest time in the nation in this event this season.

California would get its first win in an event with Olympian Anthony Ervin's top finish in the 50 free (19.69). Cardinal Randall Bal finished second, turning in the fastest time by a Stanford swimmer this year with a 20.12 in the event.

Stanford kept up the pace with a 1-2 finish in the next event, the 200 IM, as Rob Canales (1:48.21) and Steven Brown (1:48.56) set provisionally qualifying times for NCAAs. The Cardinal again went 1-2 in the 200 fly with Dan Westcott (1:45.33) and Adam Messner (1:46.20) respectively. Westcott's time is an automatic qualifying time for NCAAs in this event.
