STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's gymnastics team will have an opportunity to make an impact early, when it opens the 2010 season at Georgia, the five-time defending NCAA champion.
Stanford will take on all six other Pacific-10 Conference teams during the regular season, including a home-and-away series against 2009 conference champion UCLA, and a road dual at another NCAA qualifier, Oregon State -- all this by the middle of February.
"It's always important to test yourself against the best teams in the country," Stanford coach Kristen Smyth said. "It's nice to get a gauge of where you are."
Georgia will be without graduated 2009 all-around champion Courtney Kupets, a winner of nine career NCAA titles, and retired coach Suzanne Yoculan, who guided the Bulldogs to 10 NCAA team championships, but return a strong roster.
The schedule will be adjusted further to solidify times and determine home facilities (Burnham Pavilion or Maples Pavilion), plus fill in an open date on March 21, the final competitive weekend heading into the Pac-10 Championships in Tucson, Ariz.
As it stands, Stanford will play host to four home meets, all against Pac-10 opponents.
