STANFORD, Calif.-- Stanford Football saw four of its players named to the Yahoo! Sports All-America football team on Friday with David DeCastro continuing to be a first team selection, while Andrew Luck, Coby Fleener and Jonathan Martin were second team selections.
DeCastro has been named a first team All-American by five outlets so far this December, the AFCA, CBS Sports, Foxsportsnext.com, Walter Camp Foundation and now Yahoo! Sports. Luck has also made all five outlets. Martin and Fleener have made three a piece.
On DeCastro, Yahoo! Sports noted, "A tough, tenacious and strong run blocker, DeCastro has been one of the country's top guards in each of the past two seasons. He's a smart guy who picks up blitzes well and also is an accomplished pass blocker. Stanford has allowed just nine sacks and averages more than 200 rushing yards per game. DeCastro was a major reason for the success."
The quartet has helped the Cardinal compile a 31-7 record over the previous three seasons which has resulted in berths in the Sun, Orange and Fiesta Bowls. Luck, who was named the Maxwell Award and Walter Camp Foundation's player of the year, compiled 35 touchdowns and nine interceptions for the No. 4 Cardinal. Fleener compiled 10 touchdowns and had 648 yards receiving. Martin and DeCastro have started on the offensive line in each of the last three seasons.
