STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's lacrosse team suffered its first setback of the season with a 16-13 loss to Notre Dame. Despite the loss, the Cardinal, which entered the contest 4-0 on the season, were given a boost of confidence by its performance against one the nation's better teams.

"We played well against tough competition," said head coach Heidi Conner. "We came out strong in both halves but they wore us down. We played hard and well, but our lack of depth hurt us in the end. We were tired. However, this game was a big step for Stanford women's lacrosse."

Hedy Born led the Stanford attack, posting a game-high six goals while adding two assists. Dara Kaplan recorded three goals and a game-high four assists.
