Five members of the 2006 NCAA Champion Women's Tennis Program at Stanford have been honored for their achievements off the courts, as the Pac-10 honored Alice Barnes and Amber Liu as First-Team All-Academic, while Whitney Deason, Lejla Hodzic and Anne Yelsey were each recognized as honorable mention.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
Barnes and Liu, who both prepare to graduate next month, helped Stanford to its third-straight NCAA Championship last week on their home court. Barnes and Liu were also recognized in the region as they were selected to ESPN Academic All-America Women's At-Large teams. Barnes, a First-Team All-District 8 selection will also appear on the national ballot.
Barnes is a two-time First-Team Pac-10 All-Academic honoree, while Liu is a three-time First-Team honoree.
This is the first academic recognition for Deason, Hodzic and Yelsey.
