USSS President Betty Hazle

The U.S. National Championships annually features the nation's elite athletes vying for national titles in the solo, duet, trio and team events. Top athletes also qualify for the U.S. National Championships and Junior National Team Trials. Stanford has qualified for the event each of the past five seasons.

"Stanford has a strong tradition in synchronized swimming, including several National Team members among its current squad," said USSS President Betty Hazle. "This competition fosters the growth of synchronized swimming in the area and its popularity on campus, and supports the efforts of Stanford to continue to bring a variety of the finest in championship sporting events to the campus."

The U.S. Nationals are televised annually, achieving higher ratings on ESPN than most swimming events (source: ESPN Consumer Research).

Stanford boasts one of the nation's most successful varsity synchronized swimming programs, finishing first or second in the U.S. Collegiate rankings each of the past five seasons. The Stanford bid was presented by head coach and two-time Olympian Heather Olson, and assistant coach Shannon Montague.
