San Jose, Calif. - Kendall Beck (San Antonio, TX) highlighted the meet for scoring the school's first perfect 10.00 on vault as the eighth-ranked Stanford women's gymnastics team defeated San Jose State 197.200-193.225 on Friday night at Spartan Gym. The Cardinal move to 10-2-1 overall (4-1-1 Pac-10) heading into their bye week.
Stanford dominated the vault, led by Beck's 10.00, and took the top five places. Glyn Sweets (Reston, VA) and Shelly Goldberg (Mequon, WI) tied for second with a 9.900, while Natalie Foley (Englewood, CO) and Jessica Louie (Sacramento, CA) placed fourth and fifth with scores of 9.875 and 9.825, respectively.
Sweets took top honors on bars, tying her career high of 9.925. Foley and Caroline Fluhrer (Seattle, WA) tied for third with a 9.875 mark. The Cardinal went 1-2-3 on beam, led by Lindsey Wing's (Cypress, TX) 9.950 to take top honors. Foley (9.900) and Beck (9.875) followed in second and third, respectively.
Wing paced Stanford on floor, capturing second place honors with a 9.875 performance. Louie and Mandy Delgado (Cupertino, CA) turned in a 9.850 performance to tie for third place.
Sweets won the all-around competition for the first time of her collegiate career by posting a career-high 39.375.
The Cardinal will have next weekend off to prepare for finals and will host their next competition on Saturday, March 22 against Oklahoma.
