Synchronized Swimming is one of Stanford University's most successful athletic programs, having earned 24 top-five finishes at Collegiate Nationals in its 27 years of organized competition. Since achieving varsity status in 1993, the program has produced an Olympic Gold medalist, several Olympic team members, and nearly two dozen National team members. This season, the team aspires for what has eluded them since 1999 - overall Gold at Collegiate Nationals.

Stanford enters the 2005 season with the most talented squad of athletes in the program's history, including two Olympic and seven National team members. The entire Stanford squad of fourteen athletes looks to dominate at Collegiate Nationals in Gainesville, Fla., March 24th to 26th. In addition, Stanford aims to carry their winning momentum over to U.S. Nationals in Seattle, Wash., April 28th to 30th, hoping for a clean sweep of all events.

The 2005 season opens with the William and Mary Invitational on January 22nd in Norfolk, Va. The team will compete in seven competitions across the country between January to March. On February 19th, Stanford will host a competition against the University of Alabama, and on March 5th, Stanford will host a competition against the University of Arizona. Stanford will also host the Collegiate Nationals qualifing meet, Western Regionals, on March 6th.

Three core athletes will lead the Cardinal team this season. U.S. Olympic team member Sara Lowe and Canadian Olympic team and duet member Courtenay Stewart will join U.S. Olympic squad member and Cardinal team captain Katie Norris in the ultimate pursuit of winning both Collegiate and U.S. Nationals in 2005. If the team succeeds, they will be the first team in history to win both Nationals meets in the same season. "Our team this year is one of the most talented and dedicated groups Stanford Synchro has ever had. We have set some high goals for this year and the Team is extremely motivated to reach them," says Head Coach Heather Olson.

The 2005 Cardinal Synchro Team invites you to join in the excitement of the upcoming season. With the support of the community and enthusiastic fans, the team knows it can accomplish all of its goals.
