Walnut Creek, Calif. - Freshman Liz Tricase received Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week honors after leading the Cardinal to its first dual meet win of the season against Oregon State on Friday. The Itasca, IL native was outstanding on the vault and uneven bars, capturing first place in both events for the second straight week.
The freshman began the evening by scoring a 9.900 on vault, as the Cardinal edged the Beavers 48.400-48.025 in the event. She followed up her vault performance with a meet-best 9.950 on the uneven bars. The score is the highest posted by a Stanford gymnast so far this season. Tricase finished second to teammate Alex Pintchouk in the all-around with a score of 38.525.
Tricase, who captured the all-around title in her first collegiate meet at Washington, currently ranks sixth in the nation in both vault and uneven bars. Through two meets, she is averaging a 9.875 on vault, and a 9.887 on the uneven bars.
Her performance highlighted a home opener that was dominated by Cardinal freshmen. First-year Stanford gymnasts won all four events, as Stephanie Gentry placed first on the floor exercise and Lauren Elmore captured the beam title. The Cardinal defeated Oregon State, 193.125-192.350.
Coach Smyth's squad travels to face No. 20 Central Michigan for a dual meet this Friday.
