CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Behind junior pitcher Teagan Gerhart the No. 14 Stanford softball team shut out LIU Brooklyn, 3-0, and sixth-ranked Oklahoma, 5-0, Friday at the Cathedral City Classic in Cathedral City, Calif. The Cardinal improves to 10-3 overall, while the Blackbirds fell to 1-10 and the Sooners dropped to 9-2.

Gerhart threw two complete-game shutouts on the day, racking up 14 strikeouts. She allowed just three hits and one walk in each of the contests. With the wins, the junior improves to 10-1 overall. LIU senior Sarah Reynolds fell to 1-6, while Oklahoma's Keilani Ricketts dropped to 4-2.

With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the first against LIU, sophomore Corey Hanewich hit a single to left field to score rookies Hanna Winter and Leah White. It marked the seventh hit and fourth and fifth RBI for the right fielder this season.

The Cardinal tacked on another run against the Blackbirds in the bottom of the sixth inning as senior Jenna Becerra grounded-out to shortstop to score Hanewich from third.

Against Oklahoma, Stanford jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. White hit an infield single to Ricketts, who over threw first base allowing White to advance all the way to third. Senior shortstop Ashley Hansen ripped a triple to right field, scoring White for the early advantage. The next batter, junior second baseman Jenna Rich, hit a double to right center to score Hansen.

The game became a pitcher's dual for the next four and a half innings as neither team was able to put any runs on the board.

Stanford tallied three more runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the victory. Rich led off the inning with a single through the left side. Hanewich then laid down a bunt single and reached second on another over throw by Ricketts. Designated player Tegan Schmidt drove in Rich and Hanewich with a double to left center. She then scored on an RBI single by catcher Maya Burns.

Stanford faces Long Beach State on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. PT at the Cathedral City Classic.
