Season Update: Stanford holds a 9-8-2 record overall and stands at 4-3-1 in the Pac-10 Conference this season. The Cardinal defeated No. 14 Washington 3-0 and fell to Washington State 1-0 last weekend. The shutout against Washington ranks as goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart's seventh this season and 29th in her career. Senior co-captain Allyson Marquand leads the Cardinal in goals (eight), shots (63) and shots on goal (39). Senior co-captain Natalie Spilger has played every minute of every game this season. Stanford continues to outshoot its opponents 285-149 and has averaged 15.0 shots per game in 2003. Seniors Anna Hare, Marquand, Brittany Oliveira, Alisan Pabon, Spilger will be honored against Cal as they compete in their final regular-season Stanford soccer game.
Scouting California: Cal closed out its 2003 home schedule with a 0-0 double OT tie to Washington State and a 3-1 loss to Washington last weekend. The Golden Bears (4-3-1 on the road) hold a 7-7-4 record overall and a 2-5-1 record in the Pac-10 this season. In 2003, Cal has posted seven shutout matches. Kimberly Yokers and Kassie Doubrava lead the squad with three goals each, while teammate Tracy Hamm has tallied a team-high 40 shot attempts.
Cardinal-Golden Bear Series: Stanford leads the all-time Cardinal-Golden Bear series 11-8-2. Stanford faced California twice last season. At Berkley on Nov. 2, 2002, the Cardinal downed the Golden Bears 2-1. In the second round of the 2002 NCAA Tournament, Stanford shutout Cal 1-0 in overtime.
