STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford has added Michigan and Nebraska to its road schedule, finalizing a 2011 season in which the Cardinal will take on 2010 NCAA qualifying teams at least 11 times.
The Cardinal will travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., for a Feb. 13 (10 a.m. PT) tri-meet against Michigan and Nebraska. Each were among the 12 teams that reached the NCAA team preliminaries last season in Gainesville, Fla. Michigan has won the past four Big Ten Conference championships and Nebraska has won eight Big 12 titles since 1997.
Stanford and Michigan finished 1-2 at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Morgantown, W.Va., last fall to advance to the NCAAs. Stanford was the only one of the three teams to advance to the NCAA Super Six finals, and finished fourth.
The Michigan tri-meet is part of a Midwestern trip that begins Feb. 11 with the Chicago Style Invitational on Chicago's Navy Pier. Stanford will take on defending NCAA champion UCLA and NCAA qualifier Oregon State.
In all, Stanford will compete against two 2010 Super Six teams (UCLA and Utah) a total of five times through the Pac-10 Championships, and competes against five 2010 NCAA qualifiers a total of 11 times.
Stanford has three home meets, beginning Jan. 23 against UCLA at Burnham Pavilion, at 2 p.m. The Cardinal also plays host to San Jose State on Feb. 6 at Burnham, and Arizona State on Feb. 27 at Maples Pavilion.
