STANFORD, Calif. - Todd Husak threw for 262 yards and one touchdown while running back Coy Wire rushed for 91 yards as the Cardinal defeated the White 28-0 in the annual Spring Game today at Stanford Stadium.
The game culminated Stanford's three week spring practice schedule, which included 15 total practices.
The Cardinal team scored the first two times it had the ball to take an early 14-0 lead. Husak, who threw for 3,092 yards last season, took the opening kickoff and promptly marched his team down the field 80-yards on eight-plays. Wire scored the touchdown on an eight-yard run.
The White team, with junior Randy Fasani at quarterback, turned the ball over on their opening possession as senior linebacker Sharcus Steen picked off a Fasani pass at the 46-yard line. Five plays later, junior running back Brian Allen scored on an eight-yard run.
In the second quarter, Husak made it 21-0 when he hit DeRonnie Pitts on a 72-yard bomb. Pitts, who caugt 74 passes for 1,012 yards last season, was the leading receiver in the game with five catches for 138 yards.
Allen, who carried the ball five times for 29 yards and caught three passes for 27 yards, scored the game's final touchdown on a four-yard run, capping a five-play, 44-yard drive in the fourth period.
Defensively, senior linebacker Matt Friedrichs led both teams with eight tackles. Sophomore Tank Williams had four tackles and three pass deflections.
