STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford junior Carly Janiga will be among the cast at the San Jose stop of the Tour of Gymnastics Superstars show at HP Pavilion on Sunday, Sept. 21 (5 p.m.)
Janiga, a former U.S. national-team competitor and a 2007 first-team all-around All-American, joins some of the greatest names in the sport, such as 2008 Olympic gold medalists Nastia Liukin, Shawn Johnson and 2004 men's all-around winner Paul Hamm.
The San Jose event, one of several stops on the nationwide tour, features gymnastics performances and live music.
Janiga and her Stanford teammates have been training together for a week in anticipation of the upcoming season, which begins Jan 2 with the Cancun Classic in Mexico.
Stanford, the defending Pacific-10 Conference champion, completed a season-opening retreat Sept. 13-15 at the Costanoa Camp on the San Mateo County coast, taking part in leadership and team-building exercises and challenges.
"It was fun getting to know our freshmen and forming new bonds," Janiga wrote in the team's weekly blog, Inside the Locker Room. "It didn't take long to figure out that the chemistry on this team was awesome! The freshmen are already saying that they feel like they have been on Stanford Women's Gymnastics for years now."
