As the Fall season has progressed, Stanford Crew has continued to seek out challenges.
The NARF regatta served as a springboard for the Varsity Men to continue their
progress. It was a step of distinction against top collegiate crews, including
the #1 ranked University of California Golden Bears. Stanford entered the regatta
a more cohesive team, as evidenced by their travel to the Southern California
region. Unfortunately, the Varsity squad was missing key oarsman Chris Jones,
who was waylaid by illness. Varsity oarsmen Bryant Helvey remarked, "The
trip was a chance for novices and varsity athletes to come together and place
ourselves in race mode against top competition."
The racing on Sunday morning proved adventurous in the busy Newport Harbor, as the Varsity and Novice boats gained experience. A second place finish for the Varsity was achieved. The Cardinal will next face distinguished competition in the spring at the San Diego Crew Classic.
