STANFORD, Calif. - Former Stanford gymnastics standout Mandy Delgado Heerboth recently was married, and her wedding was an opportunity for former teammates and coaches to gather and celebrate one of the most valued aspects of Stanford's program -- family.
Stanford's program stress the importance of bonding as a team, and those bonds continue to be maintained for years to come. Coach Kristen Smyth stresses that gymnasts that come to Stanford are permanent members of the SWG family.
That was evident at Heerboth's wedding. Among those in attendance were 2002 All-America and captain Kristin Jensen; '03 captain Alyssa Cooper; three-time All-American, Pac-10 vault champion, and '04 captain Caroline Fluhrer; '03 captain Kelsey Stillinger; three-time Scholastic All-American Shelly Goldberg; '04 All-American Kendall Beck; '00 All-American and '02 captain Katy Herbert; '00 NCAA vault champion and five-time All-American Larissa Fontaine; and eight-time All-American and two-time Pac-10 beam champion Lise Leveille.
Delgado, who grew up in nearby Cupertino, Calif., and competed for West Valley Gymnastics was named Pac-10 co-Gymnast of the Year in 2002, and competed on vault, beam and floor for the Cardinal at the NCAA Super Six finals.
She was a two-time Junior Olympic vault champion and a member of the U.S. International Elite team in 1998 and 1999.
