STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Catherine Swanson has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week for February 6-12. The Cardinal midfielder scored four goals over the weekend in losses to No. 1 Northwestern and No. 18 Ohio State.
Despite the Cardinal dropping both games over the weekend to ranked teams, Swanson stood out with her all-around play. In Friday's loss to No. 1 Northwestern, Swanson had one goal, but was Stanford's most dangerous offensive weapon with five shots. Swanson also added a draw control and two ground balls versus the Wildcats.
Sunday, Swanson had a hat trick against No. 18 Ohio State. She was once again the most aggressive offensive player with six shots, but also had a well-rounded game, leading the Cardinal in ground balls with four and draw controls with three. Swanson also caused two turnovers in the game.
This is the first career MPSF Player of the Week honor for Swanson who was a first-team all-MPSF player last year.
The Cardinal hit the road this weekend to face No. 20 Notre Dame in South Bend. Gametime is set for 9:00 a.m., PT on Sunday, February 19.
