Lauren Fleshman runs third-fastest time in Stanford history in 5,000 meters
Stanford's Michael Ponikvar wins high jump title at Mt. Sac Relays
Walnut, Ca - Sophomore Lauren Fleshman qualified for the NCAA's with a time of 15:49.84, a career-best and third-best in school history in the 5,000 meters to highlight Stanford's participation on Saturday at the Mt. Sac Relays.
Fleshman, a five-time All-American, finished fourth in a very strong field. Fleshman, last year, ran a 15:50.18 to break the American junior record in the event.
Sally Glynn and Erin Sullivan qualified provisionally for the NCAA's in the 5,000 meters with times of 16:19.96 and 16:22.98, respectively.
In another section of the 5,000 meters, Anne Gunnison and Laura Turner qualified provisionally for the NCAA's with times of 16:28.91, and 16:35.99, respectively, while Mariel Ettinger gained a Pac-10 conference qualifying time of 16:51.13.
In the men's 5,000 meters, freshman Donald Sage qualified provisionally for the NCAA's with a time of 14:04.94. In another section of the 5,000 meters, Jesse Thomas and Adam Tenforde each qualified for the Pac-10's with a time of 14:11.26 and 14:34.13, respectively.
Michael Ponikvar, who redshirted last year to train with the Canadian National team, won the high jump competition with a leap of 7-0 1/2. Omer Inan placed second in the discus with a throw of 183-2.
