MINNEAPOLIS-- Stanford's Meg Hostage and Stephanie Phipps both secured spots into next week's NCAA Championships following two days of diving at the Zone E Championships. On the men's side, a quartet of Cardinal finished in the top-15.

Hostage rebounded after a last place finish in Thursday's three-meter final, by finishing second in the one-meter with a score of 613.20. Phipps, who was third yesterday, qualified based on that result, finishing 29th on Friday (228.0).

On the men's side, Stanford placed all four divers in the top-15, the second-straight day the Cardinal quartet were in the finals. Brent Eichenseer led the way with a score of 744.55 for fifth, while freshman Dhruv Tyagi was seventh with a mark of 738.65. Noah Garcia (11th) and Taylor Sishc (13th) round out the Cardinal field as four of eight spots remain for the men's NCAA Championships.

Hostage after the second-best prelim score of 299.85 to eventual winner Victoria Ishimatsu (643.30), never scored lower than a 7.0 in any of the six dives in the finals. Her best round was a reverse 1 ½ somersault pike which scored 8.0 or better from six of the seven judges for 57.60 points.

Eichenseer had the fourth-best prelim score, carrying over a mark of 375.30, faultering on his first dive, averaging 5.0's, before hitting 6.5 or better the rest of the way. His best was a reverse 2 ½ somersault pike for 72.00 points, a score of 8.0's or better from all seven judges.

Tyagi was consistent throughout, never scoring below a 6.5, and hitting 8.0 or better on his final dive for 81.60 points on a reverse 1 ½ somersault with 3 ½ twists.

The regional diving championships, which pick eight men and six women for the NCAA Championships, runs through Saturday. Women's nationals starts March 17, men's nationals starts the week after.
