Pacific Palisades, Calif. - Stanford senior Alice Barnes won a pair of matches in singles today to advance to tomorrow's semifinals at the 2005 ITA All-American Championship at the Riviera Tennis Club.
Barnes, ranked sixth in the nation, posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over 34th-ranked Diana Srebovic of Florida in the second round and added a 6-3, 6-1 victory over No. 4 Robin Stephenson of Alabama in the quarterfinals. Barnes will face fifth-ranked Daniela Bercek (Duke) in the semifinals tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Also in singles, junior Anne Yelsey, who knocked off top-ranked Jennifer Magley yesterday, defeated No. 21 Helena Besovic of TCU before falling to Bercek in the quarterfinals, while fellow junior Theresa Logar fell in the second round to USC's Amanda Fink.
In doubles, the second-ranked duo of Christian Thompson and Catrina Thompson defeated Barnes and Yelsey, 9-7.
