On tonight's game
"We got outplayed tonight by a football team that is very difficult to play against. We couldn't get ahead like we did a year ago, which makes it a little easier to defend that kind of offense."

On turnovers
"As long as we continue to turn the ball over, it gives us no chance to be successful. So what we need to do is take care of the football, and when we do that we have a good chance to win the football game."

On momentum
"This game is about momentum. A key part of the game tonight was the running into the punter call, which would have given our offense the ball with good field position for really the first time in the game."

On Stanford's fans
"I thought our fans were great tonight. Obviously it would have been nice to come through with a better effort. We've got a lot of work to do though. Winning the first game in the new stadium would have been an added boost."

On the field goal at the end of the first half
"Offensively, the first half was really frustrating. Anytime we would get a drive going, something would happen. We just kept shooting ourselves in the foot and doing things that will get you beat. We were fortunate to be down just 10-3 at halftime, and I felt like we our team could not afford to go into halftime without any points. We needed something positive to happen and with not much time left, I thought the field goal was the best way to go."

On turnovers
"We turned the ball over too many times and that's what got us beat tonight. Navy has the kind of offense that's going to hold onto the ball for the majority of the game and you cannot afford to have turnovers. That's what got us beat and that's why Navy came out on top."

On his performance
"I felt fine. During the first series, I missed a couple throws here and there, and we dropped a couple throws. That's all part of the game though. We have to be able to convert on third downs and keep our defense off the field. Unfortunately, we turned the ball over and that allowed Navy to stay out on the field."

On the Navy defense
"We gave up the one drive defensively, but I think our defense played really well. That may have been the biggest surprise here. They have a very good passing game on offense. I talked to [Stanford head coach] Walt Harris before the game. They're going to have a very good team. They have a lot of young guys out there. I'm just proud of our guys and how they played out there tonight."

On the performance of the special teams
"They were a huge part of the game. We work really hard on that. We have a special guy back there returning. We just need learn to make the kicker miss once in awhile. Our guys were flying down some pretty hard licks on the kickoff returns. Anytime you get turnovers, that's a big part of it."

On the 3-0 start
"That's as good as you can be in three games. We're excited about it. We still HAVE a lot to work on, but it's easier to work on it when you're 3-0 than the other way. I was pleased with the way we traveled. I told the coaches before the game. We had a different air about our warm-up today, a different urgency about it. I've been disappointed the way we came out the last two games."

On Navy's passing game
"Sometimes, since we have so much success running the ball it makes the passing game a lot easier. You can throw out of this offense really easy, but we just choose to play the personnel we have and we're better off running the ball."
