STANFORD, Calif. - After a perfect regular season, the coaches took us all out to celebrate at PF Chang's after last Sunday's Cal game. We all left completely stuffed and looking forward to the week ahead. Finally...it's tournament time!!! This is what we've been working so hard for all year, the chance to be NCAA champions. Monday night we all met at Jimmy V's Sports Café to watch the NCAA selection show and found out who we'd be up against for the first and second rounds, which turned out to be Northern Arizona and BYU.

The week of training was a little different than other weeks because our games were to be played on Thursday and Saturday instead of the usual Friday and Sunday. Therefore Tuesday was a little lighter than usual, and Wednesday we did our typical run-through practice, with crossing and finishing at the end. By the time Thursday rolled around we were all pumped up and ready to start the tournament! It's so much different playing in tournament games because we understand that any game could possibly be our last, so we have so much more to fight for. And for some of the seniors, these games could be the last organized games we'll ever play in.

The games against Northern Arizona and BYU were not easy wins in any case. Each game was a battle, with its own set of challenges. We had 30-something shots against Northern Arizona and only two goals, but sometimes that happens. The important thing is that we did eventually find a way to put one (and then two) in the back of the net, and we moved on to the next game. One thing that Paul wanted us to work on for the next game was starting out with more intensity and desire. I think it's safe to say that our goal within the first 30 seconds of the game against BYU accomplished that objective. BYU was a tough team, and we certainly earned a hard-fought victory against them.

Now on to Santa Clara!
