STANFORD, Calif.- Stanford's Cardinal Council, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), challenged the Bear SAAC, Cal's student-athlete advisory committee, to a canned food drive competition during Big Game week.
Traditionally this event has been a competitive canned food drive between the athletic departments of Stanford and California. However, this year all students and fans were invited to participate. Cans were collected by the Stanford sports teams and from fans during men's and women's basketball games last week, and in the Fan Fest area of the Big Game.
A special congratulations goes out to the Stanford women's golf team, which collected the most canned food items in the competition with over 1,000 items donated.
Together, the Stanford and Cal athletic departments collected over 4,500 canned food items to be donated to the 2nd Harvest Food Bank and the Alameda County Food Bank.
Stanford was announced as the winner of the Big Drive during the Big Game on Nov. 21.
Thanks again to all of the fans, staff and student-athletes who participated to help our student-athletes fight hunger.
