STANFORD, Calif. - Hey Friends and Fans,

It was a packed week for the Stanford Women's Gymnastics team with many activities and events happening. On Wednesday, we had our headshots as well as our photo shoot, taking team pictures and individual shots at various places around campus. We went to the Quad, Memorial church, fountains and many other beautiful landmarks at Stanford. Tenaya West's mom did an amazing job as our photographer, capturing the team in the best light possible (literally).

On Friday morning, Kristina Vaculik left for the World Championships, taking with her the love and support from each member of SWG. That morning, we also welcomed our official recruits who joined us for breakfast and even attended a class. At practice we had super spirit day where each class dressed up in their own representation of Stanford spirit. The freshman were "So Fresh So Fly" which is a song by DJ Laz. They dressed up as rappers with Stanford spirit. The sophomores were "Not so Soft-mores" where they wore shirts with eight-packs drawn on the front. The juniors were the four cardinal directions, which all pointed to NCAA championships in Cleveland, Ohio, and Weedge (Allyse Ishino) was a Stanford gangster with some serious dance moves. But the best class by far was the senior class (which coincidentally includes Shelley Alexander and myself) and we were the Stanford tree while dancing to the Stanford fight song.

After showing off our costumes we sat down and made sure everyone on our team was on the same page as far as goals and expectations. It was a good reminder of where we wanted to be at the end of the year and what we need to do to get there.

That night we went to the women's volleyball game against Oregon with the recruits and watched as Stanford easily won the first three games. On Saturday, we showed the recruits Stanford campus and played some sand volleyball before heading over to Jimmy V's Sports Café to watch the football game and enjoy an immense amount of food.

On Sunday we started adding more skills, which made for an exciting atmosphere at practice. Shona Morgan showed her amazing releases on bars, and Allie Skoly showed off her humongous full-ins on floor. Ming Ya Zhou also exhibited some great tumbling while Alyssa Brown was solid on beam.

After practice, some of us volunteered at a local junior high school, signing posters and talking with some of the kids at their Jag-a-thon (so called because their mascot is the Jaguar). We also put on a short gymnastics demonstration and invited kids up for a handstand contest.

Thanks for checking in with us. Hope to see you next week.
