April 5, 2000

The 2000 NCAA Championships: Stanford gymnasts Katy Herbert and Jen Exaltacion will travel to Boise, Idaho to compete in the NCAA Championships April 13-15. Herbert won the beam title at the NCAA Regionals on April 1 to earn a berth into the Championships. Although Exaltacion did not win the All-Around at Regionals, she turned in an all-around score of 39.3, which was the third best score in the nation among all-arounders who will be competing individually. Stanford's third place finish at Regionals eliminated them from the Championships as a team. Teams that will be competing in this year's Championships are UCLA, Oregon State, Utah, West Virginia, Nebraska, Louisiana State, Alabama, Iowa State, Michigan, Penn State, Georgia and Brigham Young. Jen Exaltacion will compete with UCLA in the rotation, and Katy Herbert will compete with Penn State on the beam. The top four individuals from each event advance to the finals. The all-around is scored in the preliminary competition on Thursday.

Stanford at Last Year's Championships: In 1999, Stanford competed in the NCAA Championships at the University of Utah and barely missed advancing to the "super six." The team ended the 1999 season with a tied for 10th place at the NCAA Championships. Jenny Wilson finished ninth in the all-around with a score of 38.775, 10th in the vault (9.8) and 20th in the bars (9.725). Sarah Harding took ninth on the floor with a score of 9.875. Larissa Fontaine was Stanford's top finisher, placing third on the vault with a score of 9.8125.
