Columbus, Ohio - Stanford women's tennis began play at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by The Ohio State University at The Racquet Club of Columbus today. In singles, fourth-seeded Alice Barnes and eighth-seeded Theresa Logar both won first round matches today to advance to the Round of 16. Barnes and Anne Yelsey also scored a victory in doubles to advance to the quarterfinals.
Barness posted a 6-3, 7-6(4) victory over William & Mary's 23rd-ranked Megan Moulton-Levy today and will take on Wisconsin's Caitlin Burke tomorrow. Yelsey lost a three-set match to eighth-ranked Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech, while Logar won a three-set match over No. 28 Anca Anastasiu of USC.
In doubles, Barnes and Yelsey will play in the quarterfinals tomorrow after defeating Northwestern duo Cristelle Grier and Alexis Prousis in the first round, 8-6. The Cardinal pair will face Notre Dame's second-ranked and top-seeded pair of Catrina Thompson and Christian Thompson, who knocked Barnes and Yelsey out of the ITA All-American main draw in October.
Competition will continue tomorrow at the ITA National Indoors, and the Cardinal will also begin play at the ASU Thunderbird Classic in Tempe.
