Corvallis, Ore. -- The 10th-ranked Stanford softball team (43-14, 7-10 Pac-10) took a 3-0 win from 12th-ranked Oregon State (36-16-1, 6-10 Pac-10) today at the Ropes-Fetrow Field. Freshman P Maureen LeCocq pitched a complete game three-hitter and helped her own cause by driving in two runs on her seventh double of the season.
The Cardinal were limited to two hits in the first six innings of play, before breaking the game open with three runs in the top of the seventh. With one-out, sophomore 1B Sarah Beeson reached base on an error and freshman pinch-runner Deborah Splansky moved to second on a single by senior C Kellie Wiginton. LeCocq then doubled down the left field line to score Splansky and Wiginton and then reached third base on the throw home. Junior Jenni Shideler finished the scoring on a groundball to second base that allowed LeCocq to score.
LeCocq pushed her record in the circle to 8-4 in her fifth complete game and first shutout of the season. She pitched four innings of no-hit softball before allowing a fifth inning hit by Shannon Sorg.
The Cardinal and Beavers will conclude its two-game series tomorrow beginning at 1 p.m.
