SAINT PETERS, Mo. - The Stanford synchronized swimming team won three events Saturday at the Lindenwood Invitational to finish first ahead of the University of Incarnate Word, host Lindenwood University and the Michigan Synchronized Swimming club.
Stanford captured two of the top three spots in the trio competition. Senior Taylor Durand and sophomores Maria Koroleva and Olivia Morgan placed first, while the team of junior Michelle Moore, sophomore Morgan Fuller and freshman Madison Crocker finished third. The team from Incarnate Word came in second.
The Cardinal claimed the top two finishes in duet. Koroleva and Morgan, both National Team members, won the event, while Durand and senior Debbie Chen came in second. The team from Incarnate Word placed third.
In the team competition, Stanford finished second behind the University of Incarnate Word. Competing for the Cardinal was freshman Alex Bollaidlaw, Chen, Crocker, Durand, Guenther, Fuller, Moore and junior Corinne Smith.
Lindenwood University came in third in the team event, while Incarnate Word's B team placed fourth. Lindenwood's B team came in fifth place and the Michigan Synchronized Swimming Club finished sixth.
Up next for the Cardinal is its home opener with the University of Arizona on Feb. 13. The teams will compete at 2 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Avery Aquatic Center.
