Final score: Stanford 28, Notre Dame 14

Notre Dame attempts an onsides kick, that is batted around by both teams before skidding out of bounds. With a Notre Dame personal foul penalty, Stanford takes over at the Notre Dame 37. Andrew Luck takes a knee on his final play at Stanford.

Luck completed 20 of 30 passes for 233 yards, threw four touchdowns and had one pass intercepted.

Fourth quarter (0:23 left): Stanford 28, Notre Dame 14

Stanford fails to gain a first down on a handoff, and the crowd gives Andrew Luck an ovation as he steps off the field for what likely will be his final play at home in a Stanford uniform.

Notre Dame takes over with 1:02 left at its 12. Andrew Hendrix completes a short pass to Theo Riddick, who breaks up with left sideline for 45 yards. Hendrix moves forward in the pocket and finds Tyler Eifert for 18 to the Stanford 24 with 35 seconds left. Riddick is wide open on the left, catching a pass and reaching the 2 before being knocked out of bounds.

Hendrix carries off left guard to score on a two-yard run with 23 seconds left.

Fourth quarter (1:58 left): Stanford 28, Notre Dame 7

Andrew Luck breaks a tackle on a naked bootleg for a first down. Stanford continues to grind out the clock, though Notre Dame calls its final timeout with 1:58 left and Stanford facing a third-and-7 at its 48.

Fourth quarter (4:14 left): Stanford 28, Notre Dame 7

Notre Dame takes over at its 35. Josh Mauro makes a sack on third down for the fifth Stanford sack of the game, and Notre Dame punts.

Stanford takes over at its own 33.

Fourth quarter (5:40 left): Stanford 28, Notre Dame 7

On third-and-17 at the Stanford 42, Notre Dame's Andrew Hendrix gets a heavy rush from Ben Gardner and his throw is incomplete. The Irish punt.

Stanford takes over at its own 20. Stepfan Taylor gains six on first down. On third and 1, Jeremy Stewart picks up the first down.

At Stanford's own 45, Andrew Luck throws deep down the middle to Coby Fleener for a 55-yard touchdown play. It's Luck's fourth touchdown pass of the game.

Fourth quarter (8:27 left): Stanford 21, Notre Dame 7

Notre Dame takes over at its 31 and Cierre Wood takes a pitch for nine yards. On third-and-1, Andrew Hendrix lofts a pass down the left sideline for 25 yards. A diving catch by Robby Toma is credited with a 17-yard diving catch, but it's under review as the ball squirted loose, and the catch is overturned.

A.J. Tarpley bursts up the middle to sack Hendrix for a 13-yard loss. It's third-and-23 at the Stanford 48 and Stanford is offside. Stanford has been called for 10 penalties for 108 yards.

Fourth quarter (10:34 left): Stanford 21, Notre Dame 7

Stanford is forced to punt at the outset of the fourth quarter and Notre Dame takes over at its 17. After a Stanford holding penalty, Andrew Hendrix finds Michael Floyd down the right sideline for 25 yards and ran keeps the ball for 16, to the Stanford 35.

Matt Masifilo drops Cierre Wood for a five-yard loss and Notre Dame faces a third-and-15 at the Stanford 40.

Stanford drops its linebackers into coverage and Hendrix tries to force in a pass that's high and tipped by tight end Tyler Eifert and into the hands of safety Michael Thomas, who returns it 42 yards to the Irish 35.

Stanford gains little on its first two plays and Andrew Luck's third-down pass is broken up. Stanford will try a 49-yard field goal. Jordan Williamson's kick is wide left and Stanford gets nothing for the turnover.

End of third quarter: Stanford 21, Notre Dame 0

Stanford takes possession at its 20, but gets into trouble with a third-and-11 situation at its 30, and Luck's pass is nearly intercepted leading to fourth down.

Notre Dame takes over at its 21, but fails on second down when Tyler Eifert drops a pass. On third down, Notre Dame's Theo Riddick slips short of a first down after a reception.

Stanford takes over at its 23 with 2:21 left in the quarter, but faces a third and long, which turns into a third-and-1 after an Irish offsides penalty. Jeremy Stewart picks up seven for the first down.

Stanford has a second-and-9 from its 39 as the quarter ends.

Third quarter (6:21 left): Stanford 21, Notre Dame 7

Stanford begins at its own 14, but faces a third-and-9 at its 15. A pass to Coby Fleener gains six, but Stanford has to punt.

Notre Dame takes over at its 23. With the ball at its 33, a deep pass to Michael Floyd is incomplete, but Terrence Brown is called for pass interference and the Irish get a new set of downs. On the next play, Tyler Eifert gains 24 on a reception over the middle to the Stanford 32.

Hendrix ran the option around the left side, and pitched as he was hit to Cierre Wood, who gained 12. Hendrix kept it on the next play for 13 to the 7-yard line, where he was hit by Delano Howell. On first down, a false start penalty is whistled as Trent Murphy hits Hendrix. With the ball at the 6, Hendrix hits Floyd on a quick out at the pylon for the touchdown.

On the PAT, Matt Masifilo was called for an illegal hit to the center and the kickoff will be pushed forward 15 yards.

Third quarter (11:27 left): Stanford 21, Notre Dame 0

Notre Dame begins the second half with Andrew Hendrix at quarterback. Chase Thomas records his 20th career sack. Notre Dame faces a third-and-19 at its 47, but gets only a short gain on a pass to Michael Floyd and the Irish must punt.

Halftime: Stanford 21, Notre Dame 0

Notre Dame takes over at its 29. On second down, Tommy Rees' pass is batted down by Matt Masifilo. On the next play, Masifilo knocked it down again, with Rees pressured by Ben Gardner. Now, Notre Dame must punt.

Stanford takes over at its 19 with 3:54 left. On first down, Stepfan Taylor bursts over the right side, on a read, and cuts back to gain 31 yards. On the next play, he spins for 12 yards, but fumbles and Notre Dame recovers. The officials check the replay, but uphold the call.

Notre Dame takes over at its 38 with 3:12 left in the half. On first down, Ben Gardner comes through for a 10-yard sack, but Stanford is called for pass interference on the next play and the Irish move forward to its own 44.

The Irish face a third-and-8 at its 46 and Rees' pass is intercepted by fifth-year cornerback Corey Gatewood. The pass toward Michael Floyd was underthrown.

Stanford takes over at its 36 with 1:38 left. With the hurry-up offense, Andrew Luck hits Ty Montgomery for 14 yards and then scrambles for four with 51 seconds left. Luck scrambles for a first down and gets out of bounds after a seven-yard gain to the 39.

Luck hits Fleener for eight and calls its second timeout with the ball at the 31 with 36 seconds left.

Jeremy Stewart picks up the first down. Luck spikes the ball with 27 seconds left and a second-pass is incomplete. On third down, Luck hits Montgomery, who gets out of bounds at the 11 with 16 seconds left.

On the next play, Luck hits Montgomery on an inside seam for the touchdown, from 11 yards with 10 seconds left. It was Luck's third TD pass of the game.

That was a 64-yard drive needed 10 plays and took only 1:28.

Stanford tries a pooch kick and Notre Dame takes over at its 46 with nine seconds left, but gets nothing and the half ends.

Second quarter (4:45 left): Stanford 14, Notre Dame 0

Stanford takes over at its 20, but loses a yard after the first two plays. On the next play, fires down the middle to Levine Toilolo for 15 yards. The pass just evaded a defender. Tyler Gaffney gained five on the next play, but fumbled. The Cardinal recovered.

After an illegal-formation penalty, Stanford has a second-and-10. Three tight ends are in the game, including erstwhile injured Zach Ertz, who has returned to action. Ertz makes the catch, though the Cardinal takes a penalty on the Irish that results in a first down.

Stepfan Taylor sprints for 11 on first down, but a second-down run by Anthony Wilkerson loses three. Stanford faces second-and-13 at the Irish 49. In a spread formation, Andrew Luck hits Ty Montgomery across the middle for a first down.

Taylor gets close to first down yardage, but the Cardinal faces a third-and-3 at the 28. Out of the Power I, Luck goes back to pass and finds tight end Coby Fleener around the 10. Fleener drags a tackler the rest of the way to complete a 28-yard scoring play.

That was Luck's 78th career touchdown pass, breaking John Elway's school record. It also was his 33rd TD pass this season, adding to his own school single-season mark.

Second quarter (9:59 left): Stanford 7, Notre Dame 0

Stanford finally gains first-down yardage on the ground, getting seven from Stepfan Taylor on the first play of the series. He carries again as Stanford employs the no-huddle offense for a play, gaining seven more.

Anthony Wilkerson goes hard through the hole for 11 more, as Stanford reached the Irish 35.

Andrew Luck was pressured hard and tried to dump the ball to tight end Coby Fleener on a screen as he was hit, but it went directly to Notre Dame linebacker Darius Fleming, who returned the interception 35 yards to the Stanford 25. The Irish got 15 more because of Fleener's horse-collar tackle.

Beginning at the Stanford 11, the Irish reach the 3 on a keeper by Tommy Rees, who is tackled from behind by Chase Thomas.

With third-and-2 at the 3, Rees threw incomplete for Theo Riddick and the Irish will settle for a field-goal try. But Notre Dame's 20-yard field-goal try was wide right by David Ruffer.

Second quarter (13:44 left): Stanford 7, Notre Dame 0

Notre Dame advances past midfield on a short out pattern by John Goodman for four yards. The Irish face a third-and-4 at the Stanford 45, but Rees' pass to an open Michael Floyd coming across the middle is behind the receiver. It may have been tipped. The Irish for it on fourth down, and Rees tries a quick kick, but it's blocked by Ben Gardner and goes only five yards.

Stanford takes over at its 40.

End of first quarter: Stanford 7, Notre Dame 0

Notre Dame takes possession at its 20. On third and 18, Tommy Rees goes down the middle to tight end Tyler Eifert for 23 yards to its 34.

Rees hits Michael Floyd for 9. That's Floyd's third catch of the game.

First quarter (2:31 left): Stanford 7, Notre Dame 0

Notre Dame takes possession at its own 34, with Tommy Rees back at quarterback. On third-and-5, Rees found Michael Floyd across the middle for a first down, but 15 yards were added after Matt Masifilo hit Rees late, giving Notre Dame the ball at Stanford's 40.

Andrew Hendrix came in for a brief time, but got hit hard on a run. Rees returned for a third-and-8 and found Floyd for 11 for a first down to the 27.

Two plays later, Rees went back for a pass, but was hit on the front side by Chase Thomas, who knocked the ball loose. Matt Masifilo recovered for Stanford.

It was the fifth forced fumble of the year for Thomas.

Stanford picked up an initial first down on a Notre Dame holding call, but on third-and-5 shortly after, Luck stepped up in the pocket to find Griff Whalen in a narrow window for a 7-yard gain and a first down to the Irish 48.

Luck went deep on first down, but overthrew Coby Fleener near the left sideline. Stanford failed advance farther, and the Cardinal punted.

First quarter (9:16 left): Stanford 7, Notre Dame 0

Stanford took possession near midfield and moved methodically down the field, using a series of short passes, and some Stepfan Taylor and Tyler Gaffney runs mixed in.

Facing a third-and-three at the Irish 30, Luck rolled right and hit Ty Montgomery for a first down, and then connected with Gaffney for 11 to the 3.

On the next play, Luck tossed a high pass to 6-foot-8 tight end Levine Toilolo, who outjumped cornerback Gary Gray near the side of the end zone for the touchdown.

It was the 77th career touchdown pass for Luck, tying John Elway for most in school history.

First quarter (12:47 left): Stanford 0, Notre Dame 0

Stanford took the opening kickoff, only for Ty Montgomery to lose the football upon being tackled. The call was originally ruled a fumble, but replay found that Montgomery's elbow hit the ground before the ball came loose.

Stanford, however, went three-and-out and was forced to punt.

Notre Dame took possession at its 24, but a pair of false start penalties moved the Irish back to its own 14. Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Reese was then pressured and hit hard by Chase Thomas as he threw and was slow to get up after the incompletion. Rees was replaced by Andrew Hendrix.

A.J. Tarpley and Michael Thomas nearly came up with interceptions on consecutive plays. They didn't come up with the ball, but Notre Dame was forced to punt.
