Stanford's Lightweight Novice 8 and Lightweight Varsity 4 defeated the California Lightweight boats by open water at the Port of Redwood City on Saturday. The Card Lightweight Varsity 8 fell to heavyweight crews from St. Mary's and Santa Clara.
In the first race of the day, the Varsity 8, Santa Clara jumped to an early lead and stayed in front for the entire course, holding off a surging Saint Mary's crew. Stanford finished in third, behind the battling heavyweights.
The Lightweight Novice 8 event saw California jump to an open water lead in the first 40 strokes. Stanford maintained their composure, cutting Cal's lead to a few seats by the 1,000 meter mark and finally pulling ahead in the third 500, eventually winning by 14.5 seconds.
Stanford finished the day with a win in the Lightweight 4. The Card led down the racecourse from start to finish, winning by 15 seconds.
