Dec. 18, 2008

Both the coed and women's sailing teams finished the 2008 fall season ranked first in the Pacific Coast Sailing Conference (PCCSC). With dominant victories in both the Coed and Women's Conference Championships this fall, the Cardinal teams concluded a strong season as the unquestioned power of the west coast. Strong conference sailing throughout the fall season has proven that the Cardinal men and women are certainly the team to beat. In the Coed and Women's single-handed Conference Championships, sailed in Lasers and Laser Radials, respectively, Stanford sailors not only claimed the top spots in each competition, but also claimed the fourth, eight, tenth, and eighteenth spots in the coed regatta, and second and fifth in the women's regatta. The depth of these results shows that there is no lack of strong sailors, talent, and competition that pushes the team at each of Stanford's daily practices.

Nationally, the coed team moved up four spots to a 14th place ranking, which may have come after some top performances in the PCCSC. In the women's rankings, Stanford dropped one spot to a very respectable ninth in the country, maintaining there position in front of strong teams like Old Dominion University and PCCSC conference title contender, the University of Hawai'i.

This year's event will be held Jan. 3-4 will be an excellent test event before the spring season begins with many of the nation's top teams sending their best sailors.
