In a great race against England's Hereford crew the Stanford women revealed their relentless determination. Hereford was first off the starting line and ahead of Stanford by as much as a few feet of open water at the 500 meter mark. At the 750, half way through, Stanford pulled even. With 400 meters to go Stanford was at 37 strokes per minute to Hereford's 34 and Stanford was down by half a length. With 30 strokes to go Stanford drew even and then exploded to cross the line at 40 spm finishing half a length ahead of Hereford. Their finish time was 5:21, the fastest time overall.
In the afternoon race against Guildford, Stanford led from start to finish, thus earning a birth in the semi-final round. The Cardinal women will race Averdeen on Sunday. For race results, please go to the regatta website, www.hwr.org.uk.
