STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford women's gymnastics team begins its first season in the expanded Pacific-12 with three meets against 2011 NCAA Championship qualifiers among conference opponents.

The Cardinal will play host to three home meets, beginning with its season-opening NorCal quad meet against San Jose State, Sacramento State, and UC Davis on Jan. 15 and Washington on Jan. 22, both at Burnham Pavilion.

The Jan. 15 meet features the collegiate debut of Stanford's five-member recruiting class that includes two-time U.S. senior elite national champion Ivana Hong, U.S. national team member Samantha Shapiro, and 2008 British Olympian Becky Wing.

The team's home finale at Maples Pavilion will feature rival Cal and Arizona on March 4, and will be the Senior Day event honoring the graduating class of Alyssa Brown, Nicole Pechanec, and Jenny Peter.

Stanford's schedule includes five consecutive road meets, including at defending conference champion Oregon State on Jan. 27, at NCAA runner-up UCLA on Feb. 5, and at new conference member Utah, a 2011 NCAA Super Six finalist, on Feb. 24.

The regular-season schedule consists of nine meets altogether, before the Cardinal competes in the first Pac-12 Championships, March 24 in Salt Lake City, in a competition that promises to rival any conference meet in the country.

Stanford improved to 44-1-1 at Burnham Pavilion since 1998, including 30-0-1 against conference opponents there.

Stanford has produced 42 first-team All-America honors and 68 national All-Academic selections since coach Kristen Smythtook over as coach in 2002. The Cardinal has competed in the NCAA Super Six finals five times in the past nine years, with a pair of top-three finishes and a No. 4 finish in 2010.
