Stanford, Ca - All-American Casey Jacobsen scored 23 points while freshman Josh Childress added 14 to lead the nationally-ranked Stanford basketball team to a 100-81 victory over Athletes in Action in an exhibition game on Tuesday night at Maples Pavilion.

Jacobsen scored 17 of his 23 points in the first half. Jacobsen, a junior, hit 8-of-13 shots from the floor, and 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Jacobsen added six assists in 25 minutes of play.

Childress added five rebounds in 21 minutes of play.

Other double-digit scorers included Curtis Borchardt and Rob Little with ten points each. Tony Giovacchini, making his first start at point-guard, scored eight points, dished out five assists with no turnovers in 18 minutes of play.

Stanford hit .532 from the floor, while holding Athletes in Action to .439.

The Cardinal, ranked 13th in the pre-season Associated Press poll, led from start-to-finish. With 1:17 in the first half, Stanford held a 51-28 lead.

Athletes in Action cut the margin to ten points, 57-47, with 17:05 to play, but Stanford extended its biggest lead of the game to 24 points, 100-76, with 55 seconds to play.

The Cardinal outrebounded AIA, 41-26.

Stanford returns to exhibition play on Monday (Nov.12) against EA Sports at Maples Pavilion. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
