STANFORD, Calif. - Five Stanford gymnasts were honored as Scholastic All-Americans, bringing the total for the Cardinal women’s program to 50 since 1990.

Senior Shelley Alexander earned a cumulative grade-point average of 3.71 while graduating with a degree in science, technology, and society. She received her second Scholastic All-American honor, as awarded annually by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women.

Jenny Peter, a junior communications major with a 3.65 GPA, was honored for the third time, and freshmen Lucy Meyer (3.50), Shona Morgan (3.58), and Amanda Spinner (3.60) were honored for the first time.

In addition, Stanford was recognized for its team GPA of 3.3407. The women’s gymnastics team is one of the top academic athletic programs even at Stanford, having recently been listed among five Stanford teams to earn a perfect score according the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate standards.

Alexander, a team captain and the 2011 Cardinal Gymnast of the Year, was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection in the all-around and a member of the Pac-10 All-Academic second team.
