The Stanford Lightweights Varsity 8, Varsity 4, and Novice 4 started their season by finishing second in all events at the Sacramento Invitational on March 11.
Racing in the Heavyweight JV 8 race, the Card Light 8 (Coxswain Jessica Weigel, Jennie Morawetz, Meredith Coleman, Olivia Prevost, Victoria Peckham, Nicole Pierce, Kate Hayes, Alison Teo, Rene Spellman) finished behind Sacramento State and ahead of St Mary's and Humboldt State. The Card had a close race with St. Mary's all the way down the racecourse. In their first head to head competition of 2006, Stanford was pleased to excecute their raceplan and finish up by a second and a half.
In the Lightweight 4 race, Stanford (Coxswain Jessica Weigel, Meredith Coleman, Olivia Prevost, Victoria Peckham, Jennie Morawetz) battled Sacramento State down the racecourse, finishing in 7:45.2 to Sacramento State's 7:43.9.
In the final race of the day and the Novice squad's first 2,000m in competition, Stanford (Coxswain Rene Spellman, Sam Azure, Ally Ha, Julia Meltzer, Jessica Bryant) had a great showing, finishing second in the 7-boat race.
The Cardinal will next be racing at the Windermere Real Estate Rowing Classic on March 25 and 26.
