Season Update ...
Stanford's record fell to 5-5-1 after two disappointing losses in the Stanford/Nike Invitational last weekend. The Cardinal lost to Santa Clara 0-2 on Friday and fell to Loyola Marymount 1-2 on Sunday. Senior co-captain Allyson Marquand continues to lead Stanford in shots (32) and goals (3). Junior Natalie Sanderson has tallied 21 shots this season. The Cardinal squad has held the edge on shot attempts against opponents this season 158-71 for a 14.4 shots per game average. All-American goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart has recorded 31 saves and has allowed nine goals this year. Stanford opens Pac-10 Conference play against Arizona and Arizona State this weekend.

Scouting Arizona ...
The Wildcats begin conference play with a 4-5-1 record this season. The Wildcats boast a 3-1 record on their home field. U of A has tallied 155 shots (67 on goal) this season to average 15.5 shot attempts per game. The Wildcats have scored three goals off corner kicks. Arizona's sophomore midfielder Mallory Miller leads the Wildcats with 34 shots and five goals. Junior forward Candice Wilks has notched four scores, while freshman Erin Bevacqua has recorded three. Goalkeeper Natalie Juarez has a 3-2-1 record this season with 19 saves. Last season ASU finished with a 6-12-1 record. Head coach Dan Tobias is in his first year with the Wildcat squad.

Cardinal-Wildcat Series ...
Stanford leads the all-time Cardinal-Wildcat series 8-0. In their last meeting, Stanford defeated ASU 6-0 at Maloney Field on Nov. 10, 2002. Marcia Wallis (2), Marcie Ward, Jennifer Farenbaugh (2), Kelsey Carlson recorded goals in the match.

Scouting Arizona State ...
The Sun Devils open conference play with a 6-2-2 record. Arizona State has averaged 2.17 goals per game and 14.5 shots per game this season and are 3-0-1 at home. ASU has out shot its opponents 145-122. Sophomore midfielder Brittany Cooper and sophomore forward Elizabeth Bogus share the team lead with 26 shots each in 2003. Cooper has also tallied seven goals, two of them game-winning scores. Head coach Ray Leone has recorded a 22-15-3 record during his two seasons at ASU. Last year, Arizona State posted a 12-7-2 record and finished in a tie for sixth in the Pac-10.

Cardinal-Sun Devil Series ...
Stanford leads the all-time Cardinal-Sun Devil series 3-2-1. Arizona State, then ranked No. 25, fell to Stanford 2-0 at Maloney Field on Nov. 8, 2002. Hayley Hunt and Marcie Ward tallied he two Stanford scores.

Captain, Oh Captain ...
Leading the Stanford squad as the 2003 Cardinal captains are Nicole Barnhart, Allyson Marquand and Natalie Spilger.

Movin' On Up ...
All-American goalkeeper Nicole Barnhart is now tied for third in the Cardinal record books after notching her 26th career shutout against St. Mary's. Last season, Barnhart set single-season Cardinal records in minutes played (2,047), total shutouts (18), goals allowed (4) and goals against average (0.189).
