San Diego, Calif - The Stanford's women's sailing team wrapped up the fall season in style. Sailing all 5 women at the Pacific Coast Fall Championship and winning by over 25 points.
"We brought down the women's team that has been doing the bulk of traveling this fall and they all got to sail and perform to the highest standard" commented Coach Jay Kehoe. Senior Evan Brown with Sophomore Kelly McKenna won "A" division with an impressive score of 25 points compared to Univ of Hawaii's 62 in 20 races. "They sailed an almost flawless regatta," continued Coach Kehoe.
Stanford's "B" division of sophomore Leigh Hammel and senior Sarah Schoknecht had some up and down races so sophomore Megan Grove went in and dominated for a string of 3 first place finishes before ending the day with a 3rd. "Megan went in and ripped it up for a good string and really helped us separate from the pack," said Kehoe.
The Fall Championships are the end of the fall sailing on the west coast. The next big event for the Stanford Team is the "Big Sail" our match race against Cal on Nov 27 at St Francis Yacht Club and the Rose Bowl at USC in Jan.
