Stanford, CA - After a bumpy East Coast trip, the Cardinal (3-6 overall, 3-0 MPLL) faces three consecutive MPLL games to get back on their feet and heat up for the second half of the season . On Saturday, April 6th, at 1pm Stanford takes on the Denver Pioneers in Colorado and then faces them again on Sunday, April 14th at 1pm at home. In between those games the Cardinal hosts Bay Area rival California on Friday, April 12th at 7pm - both home games will be at Maloney Field.
Last week, Stanford dropped games to Boston, 8-9, Brown, 7-12 and Vanderbilt, 10-15, to bring their overall record to 3-6. Freshman Kelsey Twist added 8 goals and 4 assists during the trip and she currently leads the squad with 16 goals and 7 assists, for a total of 23 points. Julia Calzonetti, also a freshman, put in 3 goals during the week, she currently has 12 goals and 4 assists for 16 points. Junior Virginia Solomon, a transfer from Maryland, started all three games in the cage and notched 27 saves. Solomon leads the team with 73 saves on the season and a .529 save percentage.
Senior tri-captain Liz Britt has been a powerful force on offense for the team this season scoring at least 1 goal in eight of nine games. She has 12 goals so far this season and 52 career goals, placing her 5th in all-time goals scored. Emily Rodriguez, also a senior tri-captain, has been solid at midfield recording 28 groundballs, 6 caused turnovers and 3 draw controls, which puts her 1st in all three career categories. She has 147 groundballs, 66 caused turnovers and 47 draw controls over her four years on The Farm.
