STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford captured its second consecutive Wester Women's Lacrosse League title today when the Cardinal defeated UC Davis, 11-7. The Cardinal has won the title on two other occasions in 1995 and 1998.
In today's game, the Cardinal led 6-2 at halftime and quickly scored at the start of the second half to bring the lead to five points. However, the Aggies rallied with three unanswered goals in a matter of three minutes to bring UC Davis within two points. Stanford returned the favor by scoring four more goals en route to the title. Stanford's Katharine Barnes led the team with three goals, while UC Davis' Jenna Rivet had four of the team's seven goals.
In the Division I consolation game, UCLA defeated Cal Poly SLO, 8-6. Three Bruins scored two goals apiece in the UCLA victory.
