STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford Athletics and the City of Palo Alto has been tabbed one of 20 finalists in ESPN's "TitleTown USA," an interactive and multimedia effort to determine which city, town or municipality is America's top championship location. A panel of judges narrowed down fan-generated nominations to 20 finalists, with the eventual top sports town to be decided by online fan voting.
ESPN will be on the Stanford campus on Tuesday, July 1, to tape a segment focusing on the championship tradition of Stanford Athletics. Fans and friends of Stanford Athletics are encouraged to participate in the taping of the segment by lending their enthusiastic support in the background of the set. Taping begins a 1:00 p.m., however, fans are encouraged to arrive at Pac-10 Plaza at 12:30 p.m. dressed in Cardinal and White.
Tuesday's event will feature Stanford women's basketball head coach Tara VanDerveer, who guided the Cardinal to its seventh Final Four and an appearance in the national championship game.
Stanford is coming off of a highly successful 2007-08 season which saw the school capture it's 14th consecutive U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup, given annually to the top intercollegiate program in the nation.
Fourteen Cardinal teams finished the season ranked in the national top 10 in its respective rankings, highlighted by the national championship-winning women's cross country and synchronized swimming teams. Four teams, women's basketball, women's volleyball, men's gymnastics, and men's golf, all turned in national runner-up finishes as well. Overall, 10 Stanford athletic teams finished their respective seasons with a top-three national finish.
Six Cardinal teams captured its regular-season conference title, and 93 Stanford student-athletes earned All-America recognition over the course of the 2007-08 season.

Each day, a new finalist will be profiled on all editions of SportsCenter, beginning at 6 p.m.
Friday, July 4 - Wednesday, July 23
The SportsCenter "TitleTown USA" tour: Daily segments with SportsCenter anchor or reporter will originate from a "TitleTown" finalist beginning in Green Bay Friday, July 4. These daily SportsCenter segments will showcase the athletic achievements and the teams and people who have contributed to that town's success in sports. It will also draw the unique nexus between town's sports teams and its fans.

Online Fan Voting begins, as fans get the opportunity to decide which city, town, or municipality should be declared "TitleTown USA."
