The Stanford Women's Sailing Team headed to Hawaii for the Pacific Coast College Sailing Conference Championships over the weekend as the fourth-ranked team in the nation. They returned to the Farm with a conference championship and a bid to the National Championships to be competed in Newport, RI at the end of May.

Being the favorites to win a championship can sometime prove disastrous, but not for the Lady Cardinal, as they never let up in their pursuit of perfection in Pacific Coast women's competition. Starting in A division were senior Evan Brown and junior Kelly McKenna, who led a team effort in that division to finish first with only 17 points in 12 races. Adding to this effort were Megan Grove '10 and Hannah Burroughs '11, who will look to carry on this winning tradition in the years to come. In B division, junior Taylor Grimes skippered with senior Sarah Schoknecht competing as a crew in her final district championship. Grove also made an appearance as skipper in B division. The B division boat, not to be outdone by their teammates in A division, also scored 17 points in the 12 race series.

The key to the Cardinal victory proved to be their depth and experience, as the regatta was competed in a variety of conditions. Being prepared for anything will certainly help at the next step in the women's pursuit for a national title. The team can now begin to look forward to Rhode Island, where they will meet with the rest of the top teams from around the nation in an 18-team series for overall champion.
