STANFORD, Calif. - As a junior, this was my first time having a split away/home game weekend and didn't really know what to expect. We headed out Thursday afternoon for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and enjoyed a long bus ride, but it was time well spent together on our first away trip with the entire team. As an added bonus, the freshman raps provided endless amounts of entertainment on Thursday night. All joking aside, we knew that it would be a tough game against the Mustangs and that we'd really have to work hard to get the win. With two hand-ball penalty kicks awarded to each team it was definitely an unusual game, but often soccer is, and we managed a 2-1 victory despite our record-breaking 40 shot game.

We immediately headed back to Stanford with another game right around the corner, arriving back on campus really late Friday night. We had a light practice Saturday and were all very eager for the big home opener on Sunday. As the game progressed, once again we just couldn't seem to find the back of the net and at the start of the second half found ourselves down 2-0, a situation that most players on this team have never been in. With a strong surge of energy in the second half, we rallied together scoring three goals in six minutes and ending with a 5-2 victory over San Diego State.

The two games this weekend definitely show how much room for improvement there still is, but at the same time how much character and perseverance this team has. In games like Friday we learned to be patient, understanding that we must keep working and keep shooting because in 40 shots sometimes only one will go in. On Sunday we learned that even being down 2-0 doesn't mean we need to get panicked or frantic, we kept attacking relentlessly and were able to come back even stronger. All in all I think the team grew a lot this weekend, we still have a lot to work on and are excited to get back out there this week and train hard for another big weekend on the road.

Cheers,

Ally
